Newport Athletic Club (NAC) announced that Sharon Giannelli has been named the Club’s new Fitness Director. In her role, she will manage the Personal Training Department and all associated staff, facilities and programs.
“We are pleased to welcome Sharon to our team,” said Kevin Buck, Partner and General Manager of NAC. “She has an extensive career in health and wellness, and possesses a vast knowledge of the latest trends in exercise programming. We are confident she is an excellent candidate to lead our fitness staff.”
Sharon is a Primary Group Exercise Examiner for the Athletics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA), evaluating students applying for the primary group fitness certification. Prior to joining NAC, she served as Wellness Director for the Simon Family Jewish Community Center in Virginia Beach, VA, where she developed innovative aquatics, fitness and group exercise programs. Sharon also worked as a Program Manager for Silver&Fit for the Hawaiian Islands, directing regional and national program implementation.
“I am excited to bring my experience in wellness and fitness programming to NAC,” said Sharon. “The club has an impressive reputation as the premier health facility on Aquidneck Island and I look forward to building upon that success to enhance the member experience.”
Sharon studied at the Liverpool Theatre School, International Dance Teachers Association, and is certified in Aerobic Exercise by the Royal Society of Arts (RSA) Exercise to Music. Additionally, Sharon is certified by the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) for the following: Certified Personal Trainer, Corrective Exercise Specialist and Fitness Nutrition Specialist. She is AED and CPR certified and is a Body Arts and Science International (BASI) Pilates Apprentice. Sharon has also attained certification for the following programs: YogaFit Level 1, 2 and Seniors; Zumba B1, B2, Gold, Toning and Aqua; Les Mills BODYPUMP; Spin; and Swimming Pool Management. She resides in Portsmouth, RI.
